Nottingham’s Black History Month was celebrated at the St Ann’s Valley Centre on Wednesday when lots of locals joined in the activities.
Nottingham museum service put on a unique display of historical artefacts of shields, axes, masks and other memorabilia.
And local school children brought along their project work into Nottingham’s first black entrepreneur, George John Scipeo Africanus (1763 - 1834), who started out as a slave in the Molineux household in Wolverhampton, and went on to run a successful servants business in the then town after being granted his freedom.
There was also a community choir, and Panya Banjoko read out some of their lovely poetry.
